American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Announces New Officers

Wausau, WI  Mathew M. Avram, MD, JD, was introduced as President of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) at the Annual Conference on April 7, 2017.  ASLMS is the world's largest professional organization dedicated to promoting research, education and high standards of clinical care in the field of medical laser and energy-based applications.

"I am honored to serve the Society of over 4,000 scientists, engineers, allied health professionals, physicians, and members of industry who continue to define and expand the field,” said Dr. Avram. “It is a true honor and privilege to safeguard and promote the Society in every way possible, as ASLMS is the most important and innovative society for the development of the field.”

Dr. Avram is the Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Dermatology Laser & Cosmetic Center, Faculty Director for Laser and Cosmetic Training in the Department of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School, and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School. He was the recipient of the ASLMS 2015 Leon Goldman Memorial Award for excellence in research, patient care and education and the ASLMS 2016 Ellet H. Drake Memorial Award for innovation in laser surgery. He has been active in the Society for years, serving as Treasurer, Program Co-Chair for the Annual Conference, Co-Director of the Cutaneous Laser Surgery Abstract Sessions for several years, and Editorial Board member of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, the Society’s journal.  

Dr. Avram succeeds Kristen M. Kelly, MD, who now serves as the Society’s Past President. The 2017-18 ASLMS Executive Committee also includes Dieter Manstein, MD, PhD, elected as Vice President, President-Elect Eric F. Bernstein, MD, MSE, Secretary Suzanne L. Kilmer, MD, Treasurer E. Victor Ross, MD and Historian J. Stuart Nelson, MD, PhD.

Other newly elected board positions include:  Board Representative - Biomedical Engineering Guillermo Aguilar, PhD; Board Representative - Industrial Marketing, Craig Drill; and Board Representative - Nursing/Allied Health Representative, Rebecca Sprague, RN, NP-C.

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc.
