What’s New for 2010!
The ASLMS is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. ASLMS is the leading medical Society in the field of laser and energy-based treatment, and the only one that is truly multidisciplinary. We are a rainbow group of groups, with much to teach and learn from each other.
Keynote Speaker. Dr. Howard Schlossberg, Program Manager for Optical Sciences, at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, embodies the interdisciplinary spirit of ASLMS, joining Air Force research efforts with university, industry and government programs. (Saturday, April 17, 2010)
Special Award. Dr. Charles H. Townes, father of lasers, Nobel Laureate and a Professor of Physics at the University of California Berkeley, will be honored in person at our 30th Annual Conference. Dr. Townes first demonstrated the maser in 1954, and later published the theoretical principles of the laser. On the 50th anniversary of the operation of the laser, ASLMS is proud to honor Dr. Townes. (Friday, April 16, 2010)
Student/Post-Doc/Resident Opportunities. FREE course on Saturday, April 17, 2010 covers translational research and grant opportunities.
How to Apply for SBIR and STTR Grants. FREE session on Sunday, April 18, 2010 deals with grant funding for start-up companies and small business, how to evaluate ideas and technologies for potential funding, the application and review process, and more.
Primary Care Physician Perspective Luncheon. New luncheon on Thursday, April 15, 2010 is basic anatomy and physiology related to the most common dermatological and cosmetic skin procedures. Geared toward primary care physicians without extensive training in dermatology or are new to light based medicine.
Optional Knowledge Based Exam. ASLMS will offer an optional “Knowledge Based Exam” at the conclusion of the Fundamentals of Lasers in Health Care course. The exam will be offered at no additional cost to individuals who attended the full two-day Fundamentals course. Individuals who pass the exam will be provided with a certificate, and all participants will be provided with their exam score.
Exhibit Hall. The Exhibit Hall will be located adjacent to largest scientific sessions and will offer ePoster viewing stations, beverage stations, internet pavilion, Silent Auction, and Experts in the Hall. Special “Exhibitor Breaks” are scheduled from 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
ePoster. The ePoster format has been expanded to include four full screen views (free of logos and corporate advertisements). All presenters will be encouraged to use ePoster as a conduit to disseminate their work. Ask eQuestions at the Annual Conference and receive timely eAnswers from the authors.
5th Annual ASLMS Silent Auction. Members and Annual Conference attendees can find great deals on new medical laser equipment and supplies. Silent Auction net proceeds will be designated to fund the research of scientists, students, practitioners, and other health professionals.
Course and Luncheon Handout/Thumb Drive Distribution. Register by February 22, 2010 for any course or luncheon and receive a link to access faculty PowerPoint presentations electronically beginning March 30, 2010. Print all or some of the PowerPoint presentations to bring to the Annual Conference. At the Annual Conference, you will receive a printed program schedule and a thumb drive containing PowerPoint presentations. No course or luncheon books will be printed (Fundamentals of Lasers in Health Care course is an exception.) The Fundamentals book will be provided and can be used by participants as a study guide for those who wish to take the exam.
Post-Conference Downloads. Ten days after the Annual Conference, breakout sessions in downloadable MP3 format, and select, digitally captured course presentations will be available for purchase on the ASLMS Web site.
