Dr. Wangcun Jia is an assistant research professor at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He received a Ph.D. degree in the area of heat transfer and laser diagnostics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Jia completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was initially appointed as an assistant project scientist at the Beckman Laser Institute, UCI. Dr. Jia has contributed to the development of: 1) an environmentally friendly cryogen spray cooling technique for epidermal protection with a pain-blocking effect; 2) combined laser and antiangiogenic therapy to improve the therapeutic outcome of vascular lesions; and 3) a method to quantitatively determine laser dosage on an individual patient basis. Dr. Jia is a fellow of ASLMS and his research has been funded by the ASLMS, Sturge-Weber Foundation and Candela Cooperation.
