Travel Grants
DEADLINE: Applications for all 29th ASLMS Annual Conference Travel Grants must be submitted online by November 13, 2008. An online Abstract Form for the Annual Conference must also be submitted. In order to be eligible for a travel grant, the abstract submitted must be either accepted for an oral or ePoster presentation. You will be notified via email in mid-December of your grant status.

TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION FORM

The following grants are available for the 29th ASLMS Annual Conference.

ASLMS Grants for Medical Students, Residents, Undergraduate Students, Interns, and Fellows-in-Training Doing Patient Oriented Research

• Grants Available: 20 grants up to $1,000 (U.S. Funds)
• Award Criteria:
Requirements of the award are that the medical student, undergraduate student, intern, resident, and fellow-in-training prepare and present a paper in one of the specialty sessions or an ePoster at the Annual Conference. The paper should present the applicant’s own work and be directly relevant to the theme of the Annual Conference. The applicant must also submit a manuscript of their research activities to the Editorial Office of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine to be considered for publication by the next Annual Conference abstract deadline (October 26, 2009).
• Award Selection: Award winners will be selected by a vote of the ASLMS President and Program Chair and be based on scientific merit and relevance to the theme of the Annual Conference.

ASLMS Grants for Graduate Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows Currently Involved Full-Time in Biomedical Laser Research

• Grants Available: 20 grants up to $1,000 (U.S. Funds)
• Award Criteria: Requirements of the award are that the student/fellow prepare and present a paper in the basic science session. The paper should present the applicant’s own work and be directly relevant to the theme of the Annual Conference. The applicant must also submit a manuscript of their research activities to the Editorial Office of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine to be considered for publication in the journal by the next Annual Conference abstract deadline (October 26, 2009).
• Award Selection: Award winners will be selected by a vote of the Basic Science Section Chairs and be based on scientific merit and relevance to the theme of the Annual Conference. Graduate students must be registered currently in a formal, full-time graduate program. Post-doctoral fellows will normally have completed doctoral work within the past 3 years and be currently involved full-time in biomedical laser research/development.

Peggy Nowell, R.N. Travel Grant

• Grant Available: 1 grant up to $1,000 (U.S. Funds)
• Award Criteria: Applicants must be either certified or degreed in the Nursing/Allied Health field OR working toward a degree in the field of Nursing/Allied Health. The applicant must submit and present an abstract at the upcoming Annual Conference and submit a manuscript of their research activities to the Editorial Office of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine to be considered for publication in the journal by the next Annual Conference abstract deadline (October 26, 2009).
• Award Selection: Award winner will be selected by the Nursing/Allied Health Section Chair.


ASLMS Travel Grant Reimbursement Policy

• Up to $1,000 in U.S. funds is the maximum amount of travel reimbursement available.

  • Grant recipients will be reimbursed up to $75.00 per diem for food expenses.
     
  • Grant recipients will be reimbursed up to $253.00 per day for hotel room expenses which is consistent with the total cost for a single/double room at the Gaylord NationalTM Resort and Convention Center.
     
  • Allowable travel expenses include airfare, car rental, gas mileage, toll booths, cab fare, public transportation, airport shuttle)
     
  • Course, workshop, luncheon registration fees.

• Annual Conference registration fee for Students, Residents, Fellows-in-Training will be waived and is in addition to the travel grant reimbursement amount. For student and resident verification purposes, a letter from your Program Director or Chief of Service on official letterhead must be submitted with your Annual Conference Registration Form.

• Travel Grant recipients are required to submit a manuscript to Lasers in Surgery and Medicine prior to the next Annual Conference abstract deadline (October 26, 2009).

• Grant recipients must complete a Travel Grant Reimbursement Form and submit with copies of receipts to the ASLMS Central Office immediately following the Annual Conference.

NEW POLICY FOR 2009: ASLMS will issue travel grant reimbursement funds immediately upon receipt and approval of the Travel Grant Reimbursement form and receipts. If a manuscript is not submitted to Lasers in Surgery and Medicine by the next Annual Conference abstract deadline (October 26, 2009), the Program Director/Supervisor listed on your application form will be responsible for reimbursing the ASLMS for the entire amount of the grant.


No grant will be awarded to any person if the award would be contrary to any United States law, including but not limited to trade embargoes administered by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.
