Improve Patient Care
Multidisciplinary Body of Knowledge
The ASLMS membership includes physicians and surgeons representing multiple medical specialties, nurses and allied health care professionals, scientists involved with product development, biomedical engineers, biologists, industry leaders and equipment manufacturers.
By continuously exchanging information across scientific, technological and medical disciplines, ASLMS members are often the first in their fields to hear about and try new laser and other energy-based procedures and treatments. This body of research is invaluable to enhancing patient care through innovative new techniques and technology.
Laser and Energy-Based Research Grants
ASLMS annually awards research projects designed to foster the development and use of lasers and other energy based technologies in medical and surgical applications. Since 2007, ASLMS has awarded over $2 million in research grants.
Present Your Research
Members can submit a manuscript to the Society’s journal, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine or serve as an author or co-author of a paper presented at the Annual Conference.
Standards and Guidelines / Safety / Advocacy
The Society has taken the lead in establishing practice guidelines and safety standards for physician and non-physician use of lasers and related light-based technologies. ASLMS also has a leading role in government relations by providing in-service education and testifying before regulatory authorities, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Public Outreach
ASLMS disseminates public information about lasers and energy-based devices that enhance patient care. A board certified physician locator on the website allows consumers to locate the appropriate physician for their treatment.
Through the New Beginnings Tattoo Removal Program, board-certified ASLMS members have volunteered to remove radiation marks and sex trafficking tattoos free of charge for survivors so they can have the new beginning they deserve.

The Annual Conference of the Society is the largest conference on laser and related technologies for medicine held in the United States. The annual Laser Aesthetics Course is designed for anyone who would like to have a deeper understanding of how lasers work and their use in clinical aesthetic applications. Members receive discounted registration fees.
ONLINE Learning center
The resources available through ASLMS Online Learning include courses, live webinars, professional resources and featured presentations. All content features leaders in the field of lasers and energy-based medicine. Many of the offerings are free to ASLMS members.

The ASLMS Career Center is designed to build and advance the careers of its job seekers and provide highly qualified applicants to employers in the laser and energy-based medicine industry. ASLMS members receive discounts on job postings and preferred resume placement.

Credentials
Promote your membership in the ASLMS by displaying the prestigious ASLMS name in your credentials and using the logo in your print and electronic communications. Members in good standing for a period of three (3) years can achieve ASLMS Fellow status.

At each Annual Conference, a number of prestigious awards are presented to individuals whose achievements have made a significant contribution to the field of lasers and energy-based devices for medicine. The award recipients are chosen from a pool of nominations.

ASLMS offers students and early career professionals:
Free Membership
Undergraduate and graduate students, residents, fellows-in–training, and post-doctoral fellows can take advantage of a free automatic membership for the duration of their training and reduced conference registration and course fees. 1st and 2nd year post graduates receive reduced dues rates.
early career network
The ASLMS Early Career Network aims to support those in training and at the start of their professional careers by building relationships and promoting involvement in ASLMS.
Early Career Abstract Program
The Early Career Abstract Session at the Annual Conference provides student, residents, fellows to 10 years post graduate the opportunity to submit their research, both clinical and basic, to the abstract forum. A limited number of educational grants up to $1,000 are available to qualifying members each year to defray the travel and lodging costs for those whose abstracts are accepted for oral presentation.
Student Research Grants
ASLMS annually awards research projects designed to foster the development and use of lasers and other energy-based technologies in medical and surgical applications. As many as four student grants of $5,000 each may be awarded each year. Undergraduate and graduate students, including residents and fellows qualify.
mentorship program
The mentorship program is designed to connect residents and early career members with more senior members of our society to work on a specific project over a one-year period and build relationships. Mentees can choose from a list of board directed projects or suggest a project of interest.
Preceptorship Program
The ASLMS Preceptorship Program provides a unique opportunity for ASLMS members who are early in their career to learn new techniques and perspectives in lasers and other energy based technologies, observe a successful practice in action and develop valuable career networks. Student Board Representative Opportunities
The ASLMS board welcomes the unique perspective residents and fellows can bring to the organization. Four Student Board Representative positions on the Board of Directors of ASLMS offer a practical non-profit, non-voting board leadership experience and opportunities to receive mentoring from established leaders. In addition, the individuals will inform the board and provide a student’s perspective on issues impacting their education.
RESIDENT LIAISON PROGRAM
Resident Liaisons help familiarize his/her program with the many ASLMS resources for residents. Each residency program may identify one member to serve as Resident Liaison for a one-year term.

The ASLMS Visiting Expert Program matches laser and energy-based device experts with educational institutions to provide lectures on cutting-edge research, device innovations, best practices, complications and safety.
