Demonstrate your dedication to the Society and long-term commitment to supporting its mission to promote excellence in patient care.
The mission of the ASLMS is to promote excellence in patient care by advancing biomedical application of lasers and other related technologies worldwide. ASLMS encourages and accepts gifts to or for the benefit of the ASLMS for purposes that will help the ASLMS fulfill its mission.
What is the Legacy Gifting Fund?
The Legacy Gifting Fund is a perpetual legacy fund so that proceeds earned on the fund may be directed toward purposes that support and carry out the mission of the ASLMS. The ASLMS Board of Directors established the Legacy Gifting Policy in November of 2019 (see policy below) and established the Gift Acceptance Committee.
The Gift Acceptance Committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing all gifts proposed to be made to the Society, properly screening, accepting or declining those gifts, and making recommendations to the Board on gift acceptance issues when appropriate. The committee will also approve and/or direct the allocation of investment proceeds that support and carry out the mission of the Society. The committee consists of the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Chair of the Finance Committee. The Society will seek the advice of legal counsel in matters relating to the acceptance of gifts when appropriate. See current Gift Acceptance Committee members.
What is the Legacy Circle?
Individuals who have made a gift, either current or deferred, to secure the future growth and mission of the ASLMS, are recognized as part of the Legacy Circle. Legacy donors can create a powerful legacy by making a direct impact on the cause that is important to them. Donors will be recognized in perpetuity through ASLMS marketing platforms.
Donors may wish to remain anonymous and will have the opportunity to indicate this on the donation form.

Purpose of Policies and Guidelines
The ASLMS Board of Directors has a fiduciary duty to assure that the ASLMS’ assets are used efficiently and are protected from potential liabilities and diversion to purposes other than those that further the ASLMS’ goals. The following policies govern acceptance of gifts made to the ASLMS.
We appreciate donors’ consideration of any gift to the ASLMS, both current and deferred, to secure the future growth and mission of the ASLMS. In all matters involving current and prospective donors, the interest of the donor is important to the ASLMS. These policies and guidelines govern the acceptance of gifts by the ASLMS and provide guidance to prospective donors and their advisors when making gifts to the ASLMS.
Prospective donors should seek the assistance of personal legal and financial advisors in matters relating to their gifts, including the resulting tax and estate planning consequences. The ASLMS will safeguard the confidentiality of the donor relationship as requested.

Restrictions on Gifts
The ASLMS will not accept gifts that would result in the ASLMS violating its mission, would result in the ASLMS losing its status as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, are too difficult or too expensive to administer in relation to their value, or would result in any unacceptable consequences for the ASLMS. Decisions on the restrictive nature of a gift, and its acceptance or refusal, shall be made by the Gift Acceptance Committee, in consultation with legal counsel.
Gifts Generally Accepted

All marketable securities will be sold promptly upon receipt unless otherwise directed by the Gift Acceptance Committee. In some cases, marketable securities may be restricted by, for example, applicable securities laws or the terms of the proposed gift; in such instances, the decision whether to accept the restricted securities shall be made by the Gift Acceptance Committee.
