Each year at the Annual Conference, a number of prestigious awards are presented to individuals whose achievements have made a significant contribution to the field of lasers and energy-based devices for medicine. The award recipients are chosen from a pool of nominations.

Caroline and William Mark Memorial Award
This award was established in 1982 to recognize individuals for their clinical or research accomplishments based on their lifetime contribution to laser technology. Ellet H. Drake Memorial Award
This award was established in 1995 to recognize a practicing physician who has contributed to innovative laser procedures and/or laser products for medicine. It is given in memory of Ellet Drake, MD, co-founder of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Learn More
Excellence in Laser Nursing/Allied Health Award
This award was established in 1991 to recognize outstanding nursing and allied health contributions to ASLMS and the advancement of joint practice in laser medicine and surgery. Kenneth A. Arndt, MD Lifetime Mentorship Award
This award was established in 2024 to recognize individuals for their commitment to training the next generation of medical professionals. It is given in recognition of Dr. Kenneth A. Arndt. Leon Goldman Memorial Award

Melanie C. Grossman, MD Award for Leadership, Mentorship, and Advocacy for Women in Medical Science
The ASLMS Leadership, Mentorship & Advocacy for Women in Medical Science Award was established in 2015 to honor an individual who has significantly promoted the professional development of women in specialties using lasers and/or energy-based devices through teaching, mentoring, organizational leadership, or public advocacy. In 2021, the award was renamed to honor Melanie C. Grossman, MD, a long-standing ASLMS member who passed away early in the year. Learn More
