Former Student Board Representative Offers A Perspective on ASLMS
I initially joined the ASLMS as a student member to develop my interest in biomedical lasers. Since that time, I have discovered countless benefits to membership that have solidified my commitment to the Society. The ASLMS has greatly expanded its opportunities for residents and fellows. Most recently the ASLMS created an abstract session/competition dedicated to residents and fellows in addition to two new board positions – the Early Career Scientist Board Representative and the Resident/Fellow Board Representative. Yasaman Damestani and I have been incredibly fortunate to be elected to these positions respectively. These positions have provided Yasaman and me incredible opportunities for interacting with more experienced colleagues and developing the necessary skills to serve in leadership roles throughout our careers.
We encourage all residents, fellows, and developing scientists to apply for free membership in the ASLMS and seriously consider applying for the Early Career Scientist Board Representative and Resident/Fellow Board Representative positions. We are proud to be members of the ASLMS and look forward to interacting with all of you as colleagues.
