Wausau, WI (May 9, 2017) – Research conducted by Adrian Gaspar, MD; Hugo Brandi, PhD, ME; Valentin Gomez, MD; and Daniel Luque, MD was selected as Editor’s Choice in the February 2017 issue of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (LSM).

The manuscript titled, “Efficacy of Erbium:YAG laser treatment compared to topical estriol treatment for symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause” was published in LSM, the official journal of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS).

An estimated 10-45 percent of postmenopausal women suffer from vulvovaginal atrophy, leading to a significant effect on their sexual health and quality of life.

“The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how we can correct the symptoms of vaginal atrophy and reverse this condition in a less aggressive manner without the necessity of ablation. At the same time, there is a positive therapeutic effect, both in duration and quality of results, compared with the use of topical estriol on the vaginal mucosa. Once again, research has opened a new challenge for the laser enthusiast in gynecology regarding anti-aging of the mucosa, the concept of which was first introduced almost 10 years ago by this same author,” stated Dr. Gaspar.
